CERTIFIED.

BBQ:
mike, from section n fame, hosted a really wonderful barbecue on the 26th. the trooper was still kicking even with his torn ligaments in his right foot. my prayers are with you, mikey.

EASY STREET:

(mikey is the man on the left side rocking the grill)

WORK STATION:

the unicorn book is, for the most part, complete. i need to do a few simple things with it on the computer, and then the assembly shall begin.

JOPLIN NIBBLES LOS ANGELES:

recently, chased moved himself to the fine city of los angeles. after a couple weeks of settling and setting up, lauren arrived to help put the icing on the cake.

i was able to spend some time with them and it was really nice. they just remind me of beautiful joplin.

OTIS SENIOR SHOW:

went to the otis senior show. it was an enjoyable fair and there were lots of incredible pieces, but i've come to realize that i'm becoming harder and harder to impress. with the internet overflowing with great ideas and designers, i'm becoming a much tougher critic to appease.

MY TWO FAVORITE PIECES FROM THE SHOW(in no particular order):

first, though, i apologize to the artists for not getting their names. i was literally running through the fine arts building, right before closing, trying to see everything when i snapped these photos.

LAST SIZZLE.

FINALS:
my first year at otis is complete. here are some of my final projects, while others have previously been posted.

FORM AND SPACE:
we were asked to create an extension of something found on the otis complex. my group(with three of four pictured below) chose to do grass.

i, personally, thought our project came out really wonderfully. grass is such a simple thing that can sometimes be forgotten. i thought we properly appreciated it.

BECOMING ONE:

(from l to r: lauren, matt, and i)

DRAWING AND COMPOSITION:
we were told to create a compelling composition using the otis campus, but i asked to use a photograph i had taken from my neighborhood.

the whole piece was created using prismacolors on tan paper.

DRAWING:

LIFE DRAWING:
for our final, we were given two weeks to draw a model. the pose, based upon JOHN SINGER SARGENT'S MADAME X, was nude for the first week and clothed for most of the second.

i've really come to enjoy drawing life and i believe it is where i have improved the most in my first year at otis. the drawing was made with charcoal on white paper that i had toned with charcoal powder.

THE MODEL & DRAWING:

CONCERT:
for sam's birthday, i suprised her by taking her to the henry fonda theater for a COLIN MELOY show. sam and i both enjoy his main band, THE DECEMBERISTS, and i thought it would be a wonderful way to celebrate her living almost two decades. the show was really wonderful and colin is definitely a seasoned solo touring artist, as he played off the crowd in a way that i've seen very few solo artists do.

RAGGED WOOD.

INTERPRETATION:
i always enjoy reading JEFF NG's blog. he runs a very respectable business called STAPLE DESIGN and does lots of beautiful things in a business that can be very cruel and quite pushy. on SEPTEMBER 2ND, 2006, he posted what has become my favorite thing he has written about.

looking near the bottom of his post, you can see where i pulled my inspiration.

MY TAKE:

SCHOOL:

our color and design class ventured to the OCEAN CHARTER SCHOOL. we took over about 5 projects for the children to interact with. i created a book about making paper(which i will post more of later).

THE CLASSROOM:

MY BOOK:

UNICORN PROMOTIONAL POSTER:

for our class we were asked to make a promotional poster for our book. i decided to make a horrendous play on words. enjoy!

THE POSTER:

LACMA, AGAIN:

sam and i visited LACMA again. it was still just as great, but, when we were venturing through their private european collection, we came across a twin. the resemblance is somewhat eerie.

LI WEI:

a few years ago, LI WEI piqued my interest with his amazing photography work. now a couple years on, he continues to impress. stop by his site, and enjoy his work.
