HATE BECOMES LOVE.

MY PRINT:

STORY:
lately, i had been playing with words and their opposites. lots of little ideas with simple sketches, this is one of the things to come of it. i've never preferred hate, and love is much nicer. i thought there could be nothing more simple than when one destroys hate, what they have left is love. as usual, there should be more coming in the vain of this. i still love words and i hope i never tire of them.

LINDSEY'S BEAUTIFUL PRINT:

STORY:
we finished our second prints today. lots of good hard work put in for the final and there were heaps of nice prints all around. above is my favorite print from the day, which was done by lindsey. the lovely print is based on one of her drawings. when i spoke with her about it, she said that she didn't typically draw this way; i encouraged her to do otherwise. i hope my drawings can someday be this charming.

UPHILLING.

WILD THINGS BLOOM:

LAUREN:

STORY:
a close up of the piece, b.k.a. wild things bloom, shown last week and then the original photo of lauren. i was really happy with how the piece came out, but it doesn't hurt working with such a good subject. i always found this image of lauren heartachingly beautiful. it feels so honest and open; it seems like everything i have ever wanted from an image, more so a portrait. bless lauren's beautiful face and soul.

TALK:

(l to r: previous editor of juxtapoz?, mark, and editor of paper mag?)

STORY:
MARK DEAN VECA came to otis to speak about his show, PHANTASMAGORIA. the talk consisted of thoughts on his work, influences, and his career. he had a lot of nice things to say, and i would have enjoyed hearing more about the business side of his work. i was most fascinated by his technque, more specifically his cross-hatching. sadly, i was too scared to ask him about it during the q and a. next time!

LACMA OUTING:

(l to r: mary)

STORY:
for school, i went to LACMA. we were again asked to fill a part of a sketchbook. i was somewhat pleased with my work, though i realized how much harder it is to create enjoyable reiterations of very modern artwork. i guess it is just another thing i need to work on.

DREAMING NIGHTMARES.

PERIOD IN TIME SERIES:

STORY:
sam continues to take photos for her photography course. earlier, i had gotten to view some BEHIND THE SCENES work for the project. after many hours of work to perfect the costume, i think the photos came out really wonderfully. playing on the motif of being chased by shadows and using plays on HENRY DARGER's work, ashley was asked to play the character as though she was running from evil things and returning to childhood hopes.

GROUP 6:

CRITIQUED:

STORY:
in my communication arts course, we turned in our final zines and were given another project immediately. we were asked to create an elaborate background for a photo. the stipulations said it must be based on an object that we all had with us, and all of us had remants of past projects and creations. we took our drawings and blew them up, then created framing like it was a presentation of our work.

MOONLIGHTING.

HOPE:

STORY:
for my drawing and painting course, we were asked to take on and interpret two words from a selected list. i chose to interpret safe and hope. i was pleased with the end result on both, but i enjoy hope quite a bit more. i've always loved old couples who hold hands. i would absolutely say it is sappy, but it always brings a smile to my face.

TALENT, IN HOUSE:

STORY:
keith recently went to riverbank, ca for the SHOCKERFEST INTERNATION FILM FESTIVAL. his film, THE ASSESSMENT, was nominated for best horror feature film and he was nominated for best actor for his role in the film. in the end, keith took home the best actor award. i'm sure there will be more awards in the future. congrats, keith!

STORY:

today was the anniversary of my 21st year of life. it was a very enjoyable day and it was made that way by numerous people. i did quite a bit of homework but everything came out really nicely. lots of nice people notified me to inform me that had been thinking of me. it was really heartwarming. STORY:
went to THE GETTY for my practicum course. over a 3 hour period, i drew in my book prepared specifically for the visit. the paintings were incredible and it was very nice to explore areas of the getty i hadn't before. i'm hoping to devote more time to this wonderful museum in the future, as it was surely a wonderful visit, even during the brisk weather.

LUSCIOUS.

BIG EYES, TRIPLE NOSE, PLAIN LIPS:

in my first attempt at screen printing, this is my outcome. since early high school, i had been drawing and sketching portraits. my slight obsession returned recently in the form of what i consider based on overly zealous glamour. given somewhat free reign in the class, i decided now would be a wonderful time to put the faces to use. as the projects concludes and my interest continues, i hope to continue the series in the future.
