the kind, good sir, EDWIN USHIRO, came and visited otis to discuss his work. the timing of his lecture was a unbelievable moment of serendipity - as just a few weeks before, john and i spent around 15 minutes trying to figure out his process on a beautiful piece hanging in the back room of LEBASSE PROJECTS.

SWIRLS AND PATTERNS:

STORY:
ms. amy, ms. mary, and i went to ARTCENTER to see MARIAN BANTJES speak. the talk was nice and, though i hadn't rested much recently, it was something that was very motivational. i've been excited by her work many times, and it was good to hear the background to complete the images.

========================================

EXTRA:

recently, spurred by another project, i've been reading more short stories. i plan to pick up some updike, frost, and toni morrison - but i'm looking for recommendations. have any?

THINKIN' ABOUT YOU.

STORY:
for my alternative materials and practices course, we were asked to create a two color linocut based on any country music song. chosed solely for it's name, i took trisha yearwood's "THINKIN' ABOUT YOU" (i can't say i recommend clicking the link, but i might love this song when i've been around for 76 years). i wanted to simplify the nice thought that comes with dreaming of the one you yearn for. below, the main one and a few variations i attempted by drawing on it.

IN IT:

(l to r: sam)

STORY:
sam invited me to check out MOCA's FIRST 30 YEARS show. i wasn't sure how much time i had, but i felt like it was something that shouldn't be missed. this was true. it was a really enjoyable show, and i am grateful ms. sam took me. above, she stands next to louise nevelson's sky cathedral/southern mountain.
